1948 and 1949 saw the Leaf company issue a number of sets. Baseball, Football and Boxing sets dominated their sports offerings and a Pirates set was their nonsports offering for the year. The Pirates set is 49 cards issued on sheets in 7x7 format. The cards, like Leaf's other offerings offer drawings in a limited number of colors. The Pirates have rich blues, reds and yellows with darker black tones. The cards picture many different, well-known topics and pirates like Captain Kid, Edward Teach Blackbeard and even the female pirate Anne Bonney. Other cards have captions like "Dead Men Tell no Tales", "Slave Trading", "Walking the Plank" and other famous Pirate phrases. The set is a pleasing VGEX to EX condition and displays nicely with a few better and a few worse in condition.

This lot of (30) cards is largely in Fair to VG condition with most cards falling into the G range. The numbers in the lot include: 1, 2, 5(2), 11, 22, 23, 24, 30(2), 38, 41(2), 45, 50, 62(2), 73(2), 79, 88, 92(2), 96(2), 116, 124, 136, 168(2)
