The N158 Duke Honest Long Cut War Photographs set is an albumen real photo card set similar to many of the card sets of the day. The subject matter is the 1898 Spanish-American War ships and officers. The Spanish-American war began when the U.S.S. Maine sank in Havana, Cuba harbor in February of 1898. The set includes what appears to be a total of (28) cards with (13) Officers and (15) ship cards. The cards of the officers are formatted in a vertical orientation and the ships are mostly in horizontal orientation with a couple vertical. The cards are full bleed photos not having borders like most of the 19th century albumen cards.

This near set of (24/28) cards includes all of the ship subjects and (9) of the (13) Officer subjects. The only missing subjects are Lieutenant Holmes, General Wesley Merritt, Teddy Roosevelt and General Joseph Wheeler. This set is largely in VG to EXMT condition averaging about VGEX+ to EX-. The Captain Bob Evans subject has four spots of scotch tape residue on the back of the card. Lieutenant Hobson has a pinhole top center and some minor creasing. This lot represents an opportunity to get the lion's share of this set in a single purchase. With just a few additions and an upgrade or two, this could be one of the best N158 sets extant.
